Ms. Berk is the founder and owner of Berk | Associates, a marketing, strategic planning and business development consulting firm. Prior to Berk | Associates, Jan was Vice President, Marketing and Planning for a direct marketing agency where she directed the creative/marketing team and helped to grow the companys client base/billings by 40% to $11 million. She developed a new staffing strategy/structure to provide more efficient, effective and creative work teams and provided new client strategic marketing plans for companies including Verzion Wireless, Danone, Disney, iPlace Nike/Brand Jordan, and Investors Business Daily. Ms. Berk has also served as the Director of Communications & Public Affairs for the Los Angeles Times, where she developed — from start-up — a high profile, $30 million public outreach initiative called Reading by 9, a bilingual multi-media awareness campaign to promote the issues of K-3 literacy with the goal of moving the community into action. Additionally, Ms. Berk served in the Marketing and Sales department at The Times, growing special products and sponsorship programs from $17 million to $30 million dollars in 2 years. Prior to the Times, she developed and implemented an award-winning marketing department for the L.A. News Group and operated a creative, advertising and marketing firm in Ventura, California with both regional and national clients, including the 1984 LA Olympic Organizing Committee. Berk is also heavily involved in her community, serving on boards, community organizations and offering her services pro bono to multiple small companies, individuals and community organizations.
